CHANGE.ORG Petition – Road Crash Victims Protected

Road crash victims need the protection of the Victim Statute

Montse, Vicente, Enrique, Ana, Ricard, Joan, Amelia, Kety, Eloísa and a long etcetera did not receive help after the traffic accident.

In Europe, the application of the Directive on the Rights of Victims of Crime has been very disappointing for victims of road crash accidents, since a very small percentage has benefited from the Victim’s Statute. One of the reasons is the lack of recognition of crash victims as victims of a crime, even though the majority of cases are the result of traffic attacks resulting from illicit, reckless and illegal conduct.

That is why we want to remember that traffic victims are also victims of violent acts that fall into the criminal sphere and that road violence continues to cause deaths and injuries with lifelong consequences and they must have the protection of the Victim’s Statute.

Denying this protection and not recognizing the loss and suffering suffered by trafficking victims by society, the State and the judicial system can lead to secondary victimization, accentuating and chronicling their anguish and unjustly prolonging their pain.

Now a reform of Directive 2012/29/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council, of October 25, 2012, is going to be debated in the European Parliament and that is why we ask for your signature, so that European parliamentarians support the victims and recognize explicitly to this group to equate trafficking victims with the rest of victims of violent events, avoiding creating categories of victims.
