Campaign ‘Today I drive’
European Nigth without accidents
On the occasion of the celebration of the European Night without Accidents P(A)T launched the campaign “TODAY I DRIVE” which consists of publicizing the figure of the designated driver and which will last until the World Day in Remembrance of Traffic Victims (third Sunday of November ).
In order to avoid road crashes that occur on weekend nights, and especially among young people, it is proposed to encourage the rotation of drivers on weekend nights with the commitment not to drink alcohol, nor consume other drugs, to be able to drive safely.
The messages are aimed at highlighting the incompatibility of alcohol-drugs and driving and promotes the figure of the designated driver and a member of the group commits not to drink any alcohol or consume other types of drugs and thus “drive with sense, drive 0 ‘0”. We want more and more young people and not so young people to use this figure and make it a habit in their driving, with the certainty that they are helping to save lives!
In collaboration with different restaurants, we will launched the campaign: “TODAY I DRIVE” which consists of delivering a badge along with an explanatory brochure when delivering the menu to diners so that, from the beginning of the night, they designate who will drive and therefore agree not to drink alcoholic beverages.

The entrenchment of alcohol and the increasing consumption of drugs in our society make awareness more difficult, and changing social customs is a difficult challenge, but one that we have to try. This way of spending leisure time supposes, among other things, an alteration of the set of ethical and road rules that make up coexistence. We have to ask ourselves about the type of responsibilities that we have to assume as citizens and, especially, in our relationship with public roads, vehicles, and alcohol and drugs,
and look for formulas that improve this relationship and encourage the most appropriate behaviors. Ultimately, we have to work to show that it is possible to be young, go out at night and on weekends, and have fun without using alcohol and other drugs.
We want to spread a culture of responsible mobility and beyond the actions of this campaign, we want to highlight the importance of adopting the total incompatibility between alcohol/drugs and driving, encouraging dissemination and awareness actions to avoid the disastrous consequences of road crashes, enjoying a healthy and fun leisure time and driving with sense, safety and responsibility.
* “THE EUROPEAN NIGHT WITHOUT ACCIDENTS” was created in Belgium in 1995 by the RYD (Responsible Young Drivers) association and since 2003 has had the support of the European Commission, extending to the 28 member countries and is held on the third Saturday of the month of October.
This initiative arose from noting the large number of young victims in serious road crashes, especially on weekends in all European countries. In 2013 alone, nearly 6,000 young people died in a road crash, almost a quarter of the total number of victims in Europe. The total number of victims increases considerably when adding to these figures the young people injured in road crashes, more than 60,000 were seriously injured.
Weekend nights, together with the consumption of alcohol and other drugs, are one of the moments with the highest accident rate. It is unacceptable that our young people die in the streets and highways and it is essential to fight on all fronts to stop this pandemic. The pain of the victims and family members is incalculable.
