P(A)T VISITS THE GLOBAL PUBLIC TRANSPORT SUMMIT 2023

Vicente Sánchez, president of P(A)T, visited the TRAM stand - the tram of the Metropolitan Region of Barcelona - where he was able to learn about the reality of a success story in the world of public transport concessions. There, he was able to learn first-hand about the developments and challenges of the sector, as well as exchange impressions with other professionals and authorities.

Organized by the International Union of Public Transport (UITP) it is the most important conference in the public transport sector at an international level. The Global Public Transport Summit 2023 was held at the Fira de Barcelona between June 5 and 7.

With an extensive program, topics such as efficient transportation systems were discussed to optimize the use of energy resources and reduce polluting emissions, thus contributing to environmental sustainability and social well-being. An example of this type of system is trams, which offer a more comfortable, faster and safer way of traveling, transforming the user experience (TRAMsforming the experience of travelling).

The challenges of new mobility are multiple and require innovative solutions that integrate different modes of transport, such as rail, sea or river transport, urban public transport or bicycles. The new mobility must be more accessible for all citizens, regardless of their age, gender or functional capacity; more interconnected, facilitating transfer between different means; more sustainable, minimizing environmental impact and promoting decarbonization; and more intermodal, taking advantage of the advantages of each transport option according to the needs and preferences of travelers.

Furthermore, the conference discussed how public transport, especially the tram, can contribute to improving the quality of life, mobility and sustainability of cities. The advantages and challenges of the tram as an ecological, efficient and accessible means of transport were analyzed, as well as possible measures to integrate it into urban design and promote its use among the population.

Vicente Sánchez highlighted the role of the tram as a sustainable, integrated and accessible means of transport, which contributes to improving the mobility and quality of life of citizens.
