Students from the Faculty of Educational Sciences of the Autonomous University of Barcelona present their #SLOWCITY project in Slovenia

The association for the Prevention of Traffic Accidents – P(A)T has promoted the #SlowCity project at the Faculty of Educational Sciences of the Autonomous University of Barcelona. This is a contest in which students from the degrees in Social Education, Pedagogy and Early Childhood and Primary Education at the Autonomous University of Barcelona have worked on a series of videos to raise awareness of the benefits of reducing speed in the cities.

Specialists from the P(A)T entity held a technical conference, in which the students also had the opportunity to listen to the testimony of a traffic victim to understand first-hand the real and long-term consequences of traffic accidents.

Likewise, the Research Team in Education and Road Safety (ERESv) of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona gave students training in the attitude change model, a model that has served as the basis for making the awareness videos.

Just one year after the entry into force in Spain of the 30 streets, the winning students of the contest have traveled to Slovenia from May 26 to 29 where they will present the result of the project in the annual Conference of the Master of Psychology of the University of Ljubljana .

This has been a pilot project that aims to be established with the aim of involving university students in the creation of educational campaigns on the need and benefits of reducing speed in urban areas so that they become prescribers of this measure.

Low-speed streets are the choir of the community. Streets that prioritize people over cars foster connected communities by promoting walkable, livable, and enjoyable streets.

In addition, the 30km/h streets help promote physical activity, reduce dependency on the car or motorized vehicle, protect health, air quality and the environment and facilitate safe school trips, promoting friendly and respectful mobility .

Therefore, the values ​​promoted by this project are those of coexistence, sustainability, slow culture and 0.0 mobility, that is, with zero victims, zero emissions and promoting 0 km products.

The Federation of Driving Schools of Catalonia will help to disseminate the videos among its students to help users who need to reduce speed participate:

  • improves the coexistence of the different users. The 30km/h streets improve coexistence, are safer and vital for the transformation of mobility towards emission-free mobility.
  • Contribute to reducing the city’s accident rate.
  • help to fulfill the agenda of the Sustainable Development Goals.
  • therefore, they favor a more sustainable, healthy and safe mobility.

The #SlowCity contest promoted by P(A)T in collaboration with the Research Team in Education and Road Safety of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, ​​has had the support of the Barcelona City Council, the Servei Català de Trànsit and the Federation of Driving Schools of Catalonia.
