ACTIVE MOBILITY

During the coronavirus crisis, mobility is being one of the key issues, not only because of how it has affected the municipalities that have had to adapt their streets to the new reality and that has shown the need to transform the streets as a space for meeting to live and coexist, for people who experience emotions. All of this has called into question the supremacy of vehicles. During the debates, the need to inform and give clear and unified messages was also seen to reduce the anxiety of the population – for example in relation to the safety of public transport.

Furthermore, mobility is a key issue also because it is a facilitating factor in the spread of the virus, and that has led us to be challenged to reduce our travels. The harsh lockdown has had little joys, like reducing air pollution and noise pollution in cities and showing that cities can recover.

And it is increasingly clear that it is necessary to have a holistic view of reality in general and the recently released Second Decade of Action for Road Safety proposes in its resolution a holistic vision of road safety connecting it with environmental issues, mobility , gender equality and equality and urban planning.

The coronavirus crisis has accentuated problems that already existed and that although it was necessary to solve before, now they become urgent and we think it is an opportunity to reorder urban mobility spaces and rethink mobility.

We cannot tolerate any more lives cut short by mobility, or by traffic accidents, or by air pollution.
